Because I loved Destry. I literally thought this was going to be a favorite of mine. I tried really hard to like the book once we got to the HUGE time skip & found out Destry died. This book would have been far better split up into multiple books & done as a series.

I wanted to read this book based off the description from GoodReads. I finally found it at the San Diego county library. I was so happy to finally find it in audio format so I could listen while doing things I needed to do as an adult. I was loving the book all through the part with Destry. I daresay Destry is one of my favorite characters in a book in a long time.
That being said, I am so very disappointed in this book. I am writing this review while the book sits at 66%. I have no idea if I can finish it. Did the author have plans to go back & fill in the 'missing' parts with other books? Am I going to keep reading to find out? Maybe, if I get bored & I still have it on my Libby shelf. If they where going to go back & fill in parts later - they would have just been better off splitting this book up into at least 2 novels. I think it would have come across far better had they done that. The part with Destry could very well be a book on it's own.
I don't think the book is really worth the price of buying it. However, it would be if it was restructured into multiple books and published as a series. I hate being disappointed in a book. They are my safe haven from the pain of Lupus & RA. I only rated this 3 stars as it's what I came up with CAWPILE. Even if I didn't use that rating system it would still be 3 stars - only because I loved Destry so very much.
